ORLANDO, Fla. - A tough battle for Purdue softball as they fall 3-6 at No. 23/25 UCF in the Knights Classic. The loss was the first of the weekend for the Boilermakers, dropping their record to 8-4 to close the second day of the tournament.
 
In the six innings pitched, the Boilermaker pitchers recorded five total strikeouts.
 
Purdue recorded seven hits in the matchup with Anna Lonchar registering a double, while Kiersen George posted a trio of hits. Meanwhile, a pair of runs were scored by Jade Moy and one by Kyndall Bailey in the effort. Summer Scarmardo was credited with all three RBI, marking a career-best performance for the freshman.
 
Mo Wimpee was tagged the loss, the first of the season for the senior, to bring her record to 3-1 after just 0.2 innings pitched. Relief pitchers Madi Elish recorded 3.1 innings in the circle with two strikeouts before Alex Echazaretta closed the game out for the last two innings, where she earned two strikeouts.
 
UCF opened strong with a homerun and three-run lead in the first inning, but the Boilermakers relentlessly fought until the end with a strong defensive plays including a diving catch from George in the bottom of the second inning and two catches from Kiara Dillon in the bottom of the fifth.
 
With bases loaded, Scarmardo sent the ball to the left field gap earning two RBI to bring the Knight's lead to a two-run deficit at the top of the fourth inning. Later in the sixth inning, Summer Scarmardo batted in Jade Moy a second time, producing her third RBI of the game. Despite Purdue's persistent, the Knights were able to collect two more runs to secure their lead.
 
Purdue will close the weekend tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. ET as they face the Louisville Cardinals. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
