WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue signee Fletcher Loyer will compete in the 2022 High School Slam Dunk and 3-Point Championship on Tuesday, March 29, at De La Salle High School in New Orleans.
This is the 11th annual event which showcases long-range shooting and dunking talents of 12 of the country's top high school seniors. The event will be aired on CBS on Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. ET.
He will join Duke's Jaden Schutt, Duke's Kyle Filipkowski and Tyrell Ward (undecided) in the Boys' 3-Point Championship.
Loyer earlier this month became the third straight Boilermaker recruit to be named the state's Gatorade Player of the Year after Trey Kaufman-Renn (2020) and Caleb Furst (2021) received the honor previously. In addition, he will be the fourth player on the roster to win Gatorade honors as Ethan Morton (2020) won the award in Pennsylvania.
Purdue has now had four Gatorade Players of the Year in Indiana in the last eight years (Caleb Swanigan, 2015). Swanigan attended the same high school as Loyer (Fort Worth Homestead).
Loyer had a sensational season for Homestead, setting the school's single-season scoring record (726) while making 73, 3-pointers and a school-record 179 free throws. He averaged 26.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game, leading Homestead to the regional semifinal. He is the only player in Homestead history to have two seasons of 600 or more points.
Loyer finished his career with 2,163 points (803 at Clarkston High School in Michigan; 1,360 points at Homestead) and over his final two seasons at Homestead, accumulated 272 rebounds, 212 rebounds and 113 steals in just 53 games.
Loyer becomes the second Purdue recruit to compete in the national High School 3-point Championship as 2019 alum and March Madness legend Ryan Cline won the event in April 2015.
