The Boilermakers cruised to a 98-67 exhibition win over Purdue Northwest on Sunday in Mackey Arena. Transfer duo Caitlyn Harper and Lasha Petree combined for 36 points in the win. Eleven of the 12 Boilermakers who played put their name on the scoresheet. Madison Layden dished out a game-high seven assists as Purdue provided a helper on 23 of 30 made field goals.
NO. 21 RECRUITING CLASS
Head coach Katie Gearlds unveiled five new Boilermakers for National Signing Day. The quintet of Mary Ashley Groot (New York City), Sophie Swanson (Barrington, Ill.), Emily Monson (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), McKenna Layden (Kokomo, Ind.) and Rashunda Jones (South Bend, Ind.) were ranked No. 21 by ESPNW. It was the largest signing day class for Purdue since 2013. The group featured a pair of ESPNW Top-100 and four Prospect Nation Elite 150 prospects.

• Purdue and Marshall met for the first time last year, with Purdue pulling away to a 70-60 win at Mackey Arena.
• The Boilermakers are 39-8 in season openers. With a win on Thursday, Katie Gearlds would become the fifth Purdue head coach to win her first two season openers.
• The Boilermakers enter their second season under head coach Katie Gearlds, who returned Purdue to the postseason for the first time since 2017-18 with a second round appearance in the WNIT last year.
• Thursday night kicks off a four-game homestand to start the season. Purdue will play 16 home games during the 2022-23 season.
• All five starters are back for the Boilermakers, as the squad returns 76.1% of points scored from a season ago
• Purdue looks to make its return to the NCAA Tournament for the 27th time in program history and its first since 2017.

• Purdue's roster features six players listed as a fifth-year, redshirt senior or senior, which is tied for the most in the Big Ten.
• Led by Cassidy Hardin's 78 makes, fourth in single-season history, the Boilermakers smashed the team record for 3-pointes in a year with 239.
