WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue cross country team makes the short trip north to the Joe Piane Invitational in Notre Dame, Indiana, on Friday, September 30.
The meet begins with the women's blue division 5k at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by the men's blue division 5-mile race at 11:15 a.m. The women's open 5k is at noon and the men's open 5-mile is at 12:45 p.m. Notre Dame hosts the event at the Burke Golf Course.

Along with Notre Dame, the Joe Piane Invitational field features top-25 teams Alabama, Butler, Michigan, Montana State, North Carolina State, New Mexico and Oregon State.
The Boilermakers will be represented by 12 men and 11 women on Friday.
A YEAR AGO AT NOTRE DAME
At the 2021 Joe Piane Invitational on October 1, then-senior Curt Eckstein led the way for the men, while then-freshman Emma Squires was the top women's finisher for the Boilermakers. As a team, the men placed 13th in the blue division 5-mile race, and the women were 18th in the blue division 5k event. Eckstein was 34th overall with a 5 mile time of 24:12.0, and Squires ran the 5k race in 17:09.3 to place 57th.

LAST TIME OUT: THIRD AT JOHN McNICHOLS
Purdue registered a pair of third-place finishes at the John McNichols Invitational in Terre Haute, Indiana, on September 17. Sophomore Nathan Walker led the Boilermaker men and junior Payne Turney paced the women. Both squads finished third in the overall team standings at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. The Purdue men had 70 points and the women recorded 102 points.

In the penultimate meet of the regular season, Purdue travels to Stillwater, Oklahoma, for the Weis Crockett Invitational on October 15. The Oklahoma State-hosted meet will be held at the site of the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
