Softball’s Sights Set on Athens

After closing out the opening weekend of play at 5-0, the Purdue softball team has its sights set on Athens, Georgia, where the Boilermakers will take on No. 13 Georgia, Delaware and Boston University in the Red & Black Showcase, hosted by the Georgia Dawgs.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – After closing out the opening weekend of play at 5-0, the Purdue softball team has its sights set on Athens, Georgia, where the Boilermakers will take on No. 13 Georgia, Delaware and Boston University in the Red & Black Showcase, hosted by the Georgia Dawgs.
 
The Boilermakers will play a total of five games beginning Friday morning vs. Delaware and wrapping up Sunday afternoon at No. 13 Georgia. All games will be available to listen to online, while Saturday's 3:30 p.m. ET game at Georgia and Sunday's 1 p.m. ET game will be streamed on SEC Network+.
 
 
Purdue's 5-0 Start
  • Purdue set a program-record-tying four home runs in the season opener vs. ECU in its 9-3 victory.
  • The Boilers scored 40 runs over the first five games, marking just the second time in x years Purdue scored as many (joins 2020 with 43 runs).
  • The newcomers put on a clinic at the Kickin' Chicken Classic, accounting for 14 runs, 15 hits and three homers.
  • Kiara Dillon led the team with eight runs, while posting a perfect fielding % from center field.
  • Six Boilermakers recorded a .400 or better on-base % to open the season.
 
In the Circle
  • Making her collegiate debut in the circle was junior Mo Wimpee, who pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts at Coastal Carolina on Day 2
  • Wimpee is joined by just four other pitchers with a nation-leading two saves
  • Alex Echazarreta posted a 1.80 ERA and went 2-0 in the circle over the weekend after 10.0 innings pitched. The senior tallied 12 strikeouts over the weekend.
 
Purdue in the Big Ten & National Rankings
  • While the Boilermakers were one of two Big Ten teams to go undefeated over opening weekend, Purdue is the only program with five wins.
  • Purdue leads the Big Ten in double plays (.60 per game), home runs per game (2.00), on-base percentage (.423), scoring (8.00), slugging percentage (.579).
  • Nationally, the Boilermakers are fifrth in home runs per game (2.00), 19th in scoring (8.00), 22nd in slugging % (.579), 23rd in fielding % (.987) and are one of 27 programs who went undefeated over the opening weekend.
  • Meanwhile, sophomore Kiara Dillon is 17th in runs per game (1.6) freshman Jade Moy checked in at 24th in the nation in triples (1) and Alex Echazarreta is 20th in victories (2-0),
Delaware Blue Hens (3-1)
  • #7 Brooke Glanden  is the best hitter on the team with five hits on 11 at bats, in those 5 hits she has three home runs and six RBI's and with an on base percentage of .500
  • #14 Hallie Kisamore is close behind Glanden, as she also has five hits on 11 at bats. In her 5 hits she has 2 home runs and an on base percentage of .500
  • #6 Graceyn Frost is the team's leading pitcher. In her twi appearances she has pitched 10 innings and posted 9 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.70
  • Experienced on the field as the team as the team has started five seniors in the field this past weekend 
  • Went 3-1 with one cancellation last weekend, in two of those wins the Blue Hens held their opponents to only one run.
  • This past weekend the Blue Hens only gave up eight runs throughout the weekend 
Boston Terriers (0-4)
  • The Terriers opened the season at the Green and Gold Classic last weeknd, losing to both Notre Dame and Charlotte. The Terriers only scored five runs over the weekend.
  • #9 Nicole Amodio has the Terriers lone home run and leads the team in batting as she is hitting .250 with 3 hits on 12 at bats. 
  • #27 Lizzy Avery has pitched the most innings with 15.1 innings pitched and leads the team in strikeouts with 13. Her ERA is 2.74 
  • #8 Allison Boaz has the lowest teams ERA of 1.83, posting 7 strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched 
  • The Terriers and their opponents strikeout difference is two, as the Terriers have struck out a total 21 times as their opponents have struck out a total 23 times 
#13 Georgia Bulldogs (4-1)
  •  The Bulldogs went 5-1 this past weekend, which they scored a total 45 runs and gave up a total 23.
  • The Bulldogs only loss from the past weekend came from the newly 24th ranked UCF Knights in a 6-7 loss.
  • #1 Savana Sikes leads the team with a .417 batting average with 5 hits on 12 at bats. 
  • #Sydney Chambley leads the team in slugging percentage with .643 and as well as on base percentage with .526
  • The Bulldogs' hitters have hit seven doubles in their first six games this season (Which is the most among the opponents this weekend)
  • #40 Madison Kerpics is the Bulldogs toughest pitcher as she is posting a 0.93 ERA in 15 innings pitched. In those innings she has struck out 18 (leads the team).
