Jan. 11 Update: Lafayette native and former big leaguer Clayton Richard has agreed to serve as the guest speaker for the First Pitch Dinner this year. Richard pitched for the Chicago White Sox, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays during an 11-year big league career. He also trained at Purdue's facilities during the offseason.

Alumni and big leaguers Kevin Plawecki and Josh Lindblom have served as the featured guest speakers in recent years. Last year's program was presented online and featured Steve Schwartz (Alumnus of the Year) and NeoVision Optical's Chuck Penix (Community Service Award) as the 2021 honorees.

The Alumnus of the Year award is bestowed upon a degree-holding Boilermaker that has demonstrated outstanding loyalty towards and continued interest in supporting Purdue Athletics and Purdue baseball. The Community Service Award honors qualities such as sustained involvement, compassion and selflessness.

The First Pitch Dinner has grown in size since being introduced prior to the 2019 season. To accommodate the growing interest of the event, it was moved from the Buchanan Club in the Ross-Ade Stadium Pavilion to Holloway and still sold out the allotted tickets before mid-January.

The Boilermakers have also earmarked the afternoon of Saturday, Feb. 12 for their preseason fan fest inside the Mollenkopf Athletic Center. The popular free event features skill stations and other indoor activities for children as well as autograph opportunities.
