Captains Finalized for Men's Team at the Pool

Head coach Dan Ross has made it official – All-Americans Nikola Acin and Nick Sherman were voted as Purdue men's swimming & diving's designated captains for the season.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Head coach Dan Ross has made it official – All-Americans Nikola Aćin and Nick Sherman were voted as Purdue men's swimming & diving's designated captains for the season.

Aćin and Sherman join forces with All-American divers Ben Bramley and Greg Duncan to comprise the captains leading the Boilermakers into the spring semester, which features the championship portion of the season in February and March.

"Nikola Aćin and Nick Sherman received the most votes and will act as co-captains this season," Ross said. "Brett Riley and Ryan Hrosik were significantly ahead of the fifth through eighth-place vote getters. They'll be our 'vice captains,' assisting the co-captains along with the rest of the senior class. Congrats Nikola and Nick!

"I encouraged the guys to take this week to rest and relax while enjoying time with family. Swim with your home clubs when you can."

Aćin, Bramley, Duncan, Hrosik and Sherman were all NCAA Championships qualifiers last season as the Boilermakers sent nine student-athletes to the national championship meet and scored in a program-record seven events to finish in 17th place. Aćin (100 free), Bramley (platform diving) and Duncan (1-meter diving) were all championship finalists in an event.

At the Big Ten Championships, Aćin, Bramley, Hrosik and Sherman were all medalists. Riley joined Aćin, Bramley and Sherman among the Boilermakers to score in all three of their individual events.

With the seniors leading the way, the Boilermakers are in position to enjoy another memorable season. This fall they earned a top-25 national ranking, won the three-day Purdue Invitational and produced a number of top 10 finishes this month at USA Swimming and USA Diving national meets.

This season the men have the advantage of hosting the full Big Ten Championships for the first time since 2016. The conference championship meet is set for Feb. 23 to 26 at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center.
