WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two days after announcing two additions to the roster for the 2022-23 season, Purdue Women's Tennis head coach Laura Glitz welcomed a third member to the 2022 signing class in high school senior Kennedy Gibbs.
"We're excited to welcome Kennedy to the Purdue family," Glitz said. "Kennedy was one of the top players in the nation for her class and will bring a lot of experience and energy to our program. Adding her to Liz and Antonia, this class has the potential to make a significant impact at Purdue."
Gibbs is a five-star recruit, per Tennis recruiting Network, out of Houston, Texas. She is the No. 26 player in the nation with a career-best TennisRPI of 17. She's No. 32 in the United States per Babola Recruit Lists, including the second-best player in the gulf states and Texas. She has steadily climbed up the rankings during her prep career from No. 97 in 2018 up 65 spots to her current mark.
Per TRN, Gibbs has a 45-23 career record, with five wins over blue-chip recruits. She posted 14-6 and 13-3 marks against five and four-star recruits, respectively, during her prep career.
Gibbs reached a career-high ranking in the ITF World Junior lists at No. 765 earlier this year. On the ITF Junior Circuit, she reached four singles quarterfinals, as well as the championship match of the J4 Santa Tecla in El Salvador. In doubles, Gibbs made it to six quarterfinals and four semifinals.
Her strength of schedule ranks 42nd in the class of 2022. Gibbs took runner up honors in the consolation flight at the L1 USTA Girls' U18 National Clay Court Championships in singles, fourth place at the L1 USTA U18 Girls' Sectional Invitational in Mobile, Ala. She won the singles flight at the 2021 L3 Open in Tucson, Ariz.
