In the CSCAA preseason polls, which remain the active rankings until January, Michigan was ranked No. 4 (women) and No. 6 (men). Missouri opened the season at No. 14 (men) and No. 20 (women). The Wolverines and Tigers also raced against each other the weekend of Oct. 8 to 9 at the six-team SMU Classic in Dallas. Along with host SMU, the rest of the field that weekend featured Arizona, Louisville, the Texas A&M men and the Miami (Fla.) women.

A men's triple dual with Arizona and Missouri in Tucson in January 2003 marked the last time the Boilermakers competed head-to-head vs. the Tigers. Besides the Big Ten Championships (men in 2016, women in 2017, divers in 2021), Michigan is set to compete in West Lafayette for the first since a traditional co-ed dual in January 2014.

Purdue hosted top-25 opponents Indiana and Ohio State for a co-ed triple dual in February. But with Missouri in the mix from the Southeastern Conference, Friday's meet sets up similar to a November 2018 triple dual vs. Wisconsin and Tennessee. The Badgers and Volunteers were also nationally ranked among both genders. The upgraded videoboard at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center made its debut at the Friday afternoon dual nearly three years ago to the day (Nov. 2, 2018).

Later this month, the Boilermakers will welcome student-athletes from seven different universities to campus for the three-day, six-session Purdue Invitational (Nov. 18-20). Louisville, Northwestern, Missouri State and McKendree will all have co-ed representation along with the FIU women, Illinois State women and Navy men.
