WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue soccer team rose one spot in the national rankings to No. 18 in this week's United Soccer Coaches Top 25.

The Boilermakers are ranked nationally for the third consecutive week, and it is their highest ranking since 2009, which also was the last year the team was ranked before two weeks ago. Purdue debuted at No. 25 on October 5 and was No. 19 last week.

Purdue is 11-3-2 overall and 6-2-0 in the Big Ten, both its best records since 2007, and the Boilermakers are second in the conference standings with 18 points. Last week, a 1-0, overtime win at Ohio State on October 14 was followed by a 2-1 defeat at Penn State on October 17. The Boilermakers saw their three-match win streak snapped with the loss, and they entered the game having won nine of their last 10.

The Old Gold and Black also remain at No. 2 in the North Region ranking, and they are No. 27 in the latest NCAA RPI. Purdue also is No. 27 in the College Soccer News Top 30 Poll.

The last time the Boilermakers appeared in the national rankings prior to this season was when they entered the 2009 NCAA Tournament ranked No. 24. This week's No. 18 ranking is the highest since they also were No. 18 on October 12, 2009.

One of three Big Ten teams in this week's poll, Purdue is joined by No. 9 Rutgers and No. 24 Penn State, while Michigan is receiving votes. Additionally, non-conference opponent Notre Dame is No. 15.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the 18th-ranked Boilermakers host Northwestern on Thursday, October 21, at 8 p.m. ET. The contest will be broadcast nationally on the Big Ten Network. Admission is free for all fans to every regular-season home match in 2021.
