WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's tennis team sets out for its first clash away from home this fall with the ITA Ohio Valley Regional this weekend, hosted by the University of Tennessee. The Boilermakers will vie for a spot at the ITA Fall National Championships from Nov. 4-7 in San Diego.
Purdue enters the regional competition after a solid weekend at the Purdue Fall Invite. The Boilermakers claimed 13 singles victories and seven doubles wins with just four total defeats against teams from DePaul, Ball State and IUPUI.
Rookies Rohan Sachdev and Julen Morgan were stellar in their collegiate singles debuts. The duo both went unscathed to a 3-0 record to earn all-conference honors. Sachdev and 2020 ITA Most Improved Senior Athell Bennett also garnered that honor with a 3-0 weekend in doubles. Freshman Gabriele Brancatelli took the courts for the first time in his career in singles and doubles.
7 of Purdue's 10 student-athletes made their 2021-22 debuts last weekend. The ITA Ohio Valley Regional will offer the Boilermakers' fourth freshman to make his official debut, as Piotr Galus will be available to compete in this weekend's tournament.
