WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Sophomore Alexis Zatta of the Purdue track & field team has been named the Big Ten Women's Field Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
It is the first Big Ten athlete of the week award of Zatta's career, and comes after she won the high jump on April 9.
Zatta earned her first outdoor victory of 2021 when she cleared 1.77 meters in the high jump at the Big Ten Indiana Invitational No. 2. It is the second-best jump in the Big Ten this year and a personal-best mark for the Athens, Ohio, native.
The second Boilermaker in the first three weeks of the outdoor season to be recognized by the Big Ten, Zatta joins junior Jalil Brewer, who was named the Men's Field Athlete of the Week on April 7. Additionally, Zatta is Purdue's first Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week awardee since March 21, 2018, when Savannah Carson was honored.
Zatta and the Boilermakers travel to Texas this weekend for the Husker Big Ten Invitational, and Purdue's distance runners will compete in Bloomington, Indiana, at the Big Ten Indiana Invitational No. 3. Competition in Prairie View, Texas, is slated for April 16-17 at the Prairie View A&M Track Stadium, while the meet at IU's Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex is on April 16.
