WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Junior Grace Cleveland and freshman Taylor Trammell were named Big Ten Weekly Award winners following a split weekend at then-No. 10 Penn State.
Cleveland picked up Defensive Player of the Week honors for her first conference honor of the season while Trammell was selected as Freshman of the Week. It is the second time this season multiple Boilermakers were selected in a given week – a feat only accomplished one other time in the program's history (Sept. 15 and Oct. 20, 2008).
Cleveland's recognition marks the first defensive award and second overall of her career. The Bloomington, Illinois native recorded 14 blocks on the weekend, including a career-high nine assisted blocks in Friday's 4-1 victory at then-No. 10 Penn State. Additionally, Cleveland was one dig shy of a triple threat that evening with 11 kills, 10 blocks and nine digs.
Trammell's honor is the first freshman of the week awarded to a Boilermaker since All-American Faye Adelaja received the accolade in 2013. Trammell, who was also named Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 15, led the team with a .500 attack % at then-No. 10 Penn State. Additionally, Trammell assisted on 14 blocks and added eight kills, all while going errorless.
Collectively, the Boilermakers have taken home five awards this season, tying 2019 as the most in a given season since 2011.
