WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue track & field and cross country coach Norbert Elliott has announced that Zamen Siyoum has committed to the program and will begin his Boilermaker career in 2021-22.
A native of Columbus, Ohio, Siyoum is a hurdler who attends Pickerington North High.
"Zamen is a very talented hurdler who is capable of making an immediate impact on our program," Elliott said. "He is dedicated to his craft and has had great coaching fundamentals. We are excited that he will be a Boilermaker."
"I chose Purdue because Coach Elliott understands my goals and my circumstances," Siyoum said. "Coach Elliott and I see eye-to-eye, and we both have the same love and passion for the sport."
At Pickerington North, Siyoum was a two-time All-Ohio honoree in the 60-meter hurdles and 4x200 relay. He owns the school record in the 60 hurdles, in 7.87 seconds, and also set a personal-best 200 time of 22.4. A scholar athlete, Siyoum runs for coaches Jamie Hence and David Spring.
"I love to mentor kids and give back to my community," Siyoum added. "I feel like working hard and going to a great school sets an example for these young children that anything is possible."
Siyoum's parents are Tedros Siyoum and Awet Hagos, and he has an older sibling. He is undecided on his major at Purdue, and would like to run professionally when his Boilermaker career concludes.
Siyoum joins a six-member signing class that was announced in November and Rieko Wilford, who committed in February.
