The Boilermakers put together one of their best offensive games of the season Thursday afternoon at No. 15 Ohio State. Purdue posted a their second-high scoring total and field goal percentage but could not keep pace in a 100-85 loss to the Buckeyes. Fatou Diagne totaled a career-high 21 points, as Purdue notched 34 points in the paint.
NOTES
• Purdue leads the all-time series with Michigan State 42-35, with the two sides splitting the last eight meetings.
• Purdue has reached 80 points six times this season and 22 times over the last six years. The Boilermakers are 4-2 when touching 80 in 2020-21.
• Against Ohio State, Purdue gave up 100 points for the fourth time in program history, and the first in more than a decade. Despite the Buckeye's point total, Purdue scored 85 points and shot over 55% from the field. In the last six seasons, only 15 teams have lost when reaching those marks.
• Sunday marks the second collegiate meeting between Purdue's Madison Layden and Michigan State's Kendall Bostic. The duo guided Northwestern High School to three Indiana State Championship Games and a pair of titles under Layden's mother Kathie, a standout player at Evansville.
• After taking a few games to find her collegiate footing, Madison Layden has turned into a consistent 3-point shooter with a make in each of the last 16 games. The rookie is tied for ninth in the Big Ten with 2.1 triples per league game this season.
• Brooke Moore has found her stride offensively, hitting double figures in five of the last seven games. Moore is averaging 12.7 points during that span. She's up to 11.4 points per game and second on the team with 27 triples.
• Rokia Doumbia's impact continues to grow with 7.3 points and 6.6 rebounds in games she plays over 15 minutes.
• Purdue is scoring 10.9 more points per Big Ten road game, compared to home league games. Kayana Traylor leads the team with 14.8 points per game.
• The Boilermakers are tied for fifth in the Big Ten with five games of 20 assists or more and are averaging 14.4 helpers per game.
• Cassidy Hardin knocked down a pair of 3-pointers against Ohio State in her first outing after missing the last three games due to COVID-19 protocols.
• On Thursday, all four of Purdue's 2021 signees were named McDonald's All-America Game Nominees.
