WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue volleyball was voted No. 13 in the 2021 spring preseason poll by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Tuesday.
Purdue's nod marks the 10th consecutive season the Boilermakers are ranked among the nation's best and the 14th overall under head coach Dave Shondell.
Of the team's first four weeks of play, the Boilermakers are slated to play three top-24 programs, including two among the top-10. In the opening weekend, the Purdue will travel to No. 1 nationally-ranked Wisconsin for back-to-back duals. Meanwhile, in Week 3, Purdue will host No. 7 Minnesota before traveling to No. 24 Michigan. Meanwhile, Week 7 will see the Boilermakers taking on No. 9 Penn State on the road.
The Boilermakers return two All-Americans in third team selection Grace Cleveland and honorable mention Caitlyn Newton, in addition to starting returners Hayley Bush, Jena Otec and Marisa Hornung. Purdue entered the 2019 season ranked No. 17 in the preseason poll and closed out the year with a No. 13 nod following its NCAA Regional appearance and a 24-8 record.
The next poll will be released January 26.
