WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Men's golf and volleyball were recognized with team academic awards and 24 student-athletes were honored individually as part of Purdue Athletics' annual Boilers Back in Action event, which was held virtually via Zoom this year on the eve of the opening of the fall semester.
Men's golf claimed the President's Cup for having the department's best grade-point average (3.90) during the 2020 spring semester. The Provost's Award went to volleyball for having the most-improved GPA during the previous semester. The 2019 Sweet 16 qualifier raised its GPA to 3.74 in the spring thanks in part to having six players with perfect 4.0 marks.
Seven student-athletes received the Ben Korschot Perseverance Award, which is awarded to Purdue student-athletes who exemplify the spirit of determination that makes walk-ons successful. It is named after former football walk-on Ben Korschot.
The Durham Brothers Leadership Award, established by former football players John and Bull Durham, was bestowed upon 18 Boilermakers. It recognizes student-athletes who have demonstrated leadership to teammates through their positive attitude, strong work ethic and overall commitment to excellence.
Tennis player Zeynep Naz Ozturk was a recipient of both awards.
