Purdue looks to strengthen its postseason resume this weekend when it heads to Arizona.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team looks to strengthen its postseason resume this weekend when it heads to Arizona for the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate held at the Desert Mountain's Outlaw Course in Scottsdale.
 
The 12-team field will open play Saturday at the 7,107-yard, par-72 Outlaw Course layout. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, then finish play Sunday with 18 holes.
 
The Boilermakers are one of four Big Ten teams in the field, joined by Northwestern, Nebraska and Michigan (host). Other strong teams include Vanderbilt and Mississippi State.

  • Andrew Farraye, Sophomore: Tied for the team lead in stroke average (72.17), posting five top-20 finishes in six events … leads team with 11 rounds of even-par or better … finished T-10th at the Marquette Intercollegiate and 12th at the Puerto Rico Classic … has a team-best 66 birdies and averages 4.61 strokes per hole on par-5s … has five career top-20s in 11 career events.
  • Joe Weiler, Junior: Tied for the team lead in stroke average (72.17) and has a team-best three top-10 finishes … has had a counting score in 16 of 18 rounds this year … nine rounds of even-par or better and three rounds in the 60s … averages 71.83 strokes per round in the second round, the best team average by over a stroke … has only seven double-bogeys or worse on the season … leads team with 209 pars … finished in the top five at the Island Resort Intercollegiate (T-2nd) and Gopher Invitational (T-3rd).  
  • Nick Dentino, Freshman: Owns a 72.89 stroke average, on pace for the best average by a freshman in school history … has nine rounds of even-par or better, including a team-best four rounds in the 60s … second on the team with 199 pars … finished tied for second at the season-opening Island Resort Intercollegiate … was under-par in the first five rounds of his career, tied for the ninth-longest streak in school history.
  • Jason Hong, Junior: Owns a 74.13 stroke average with a top-20 finish at the Crooked Stick Invitational (T-13) … six of his 15 rounds have been even-par or better … counting score in 12 of 15 rounds this past fall … owns a team-best seven career top-20 finishes.
  • Cole Bradley, Junior: owns a 74.22 stroke average with top-10 finish at the Marquette Intercollegiate (T-7) … has a career 73.58 stroke average, good for seventh in school history … won the First Coast Amateur in early January.
  • Peyton Snoeberger, Freshman (Ind.): Has a 75.17 stroke average with a top-20 finish at the Island Resort Intercollegiate (T-18) … has three rounds of even-par or better.
 
THE COURSE
Desert Mountain's sixth course, the Outlaw Course, opened in 2003 under architect Jack Nicklaus. It was named the sixth-most challenging course in Arizona and one of the 50 toughest courses in America by Golf Digest. It was named one of the 50 best new courses by Golf Digest in 2006.

DESERT MOUNTAIN INTERCOLLEGIATE HISTORY
This marks Purdue's fifth appearance in the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate, all coming since the inaugural event in March 2015. The Boilermakers are looking for their first team title in the event, but have had success by finishing second twice and fourth twice. Purdue's best team score in the four previous years is a 7-under par 857, with the best 18-hole score being a 280 in the final round in 2016.
