Boilermakers Maintain National Rankings

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The latest Track & Field National Rating Index features nine ranked Purdue track & field athletes along with the team event rankings, where the Boilermakers are in the top-25 in eight events.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The latest Track & Field National Rating Index features nine ranked Purdue track & field athletes along with the team event rankings, where the Boilermakers are in the top-25 in eight events.
 
The Purdue men are ranked No. 61 nationally, No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region and No. 5 in the Big Ten Conference, while the women check in at No. 60 in the country, No. 7 in the region and No. 10 in the Big Ten. The third week of rankings were announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
 
A total of nine Boilermakers are ranked in the individual event rankings, with three based on marks earned through the first six meets of the 2019-20 campaign.
 
Junior Tamar Greene is ranked No. 20 in the triple jump thanks to a jump of 15.90 meters on Jan. 17 at the Larry Wieczorek Invite.
 
In the 200-meter run, senior Samson Colebrooke checks in at No. 21 nationally. On Jan. 24, he finished in 20.88 seconds, the third-fastest time in school history and the fastest by a Boilermaker in the event since 2014.
 
Senior Rebecca Coan is No. 35 nationally in the pentathlon after she earned a mark of 3,851 on Jan. 10, at home at the Gene Edmonds Memorial Invite. It is the fifth-best pentathlon score in program history, as Coan became the fifth Boilermaker to eclipse 3,800 points in the event in team history and the first since 2001.
 
Five more Purdue student-athletes appear in this week's rankings thanks to scores earned in previous seasons, as the Boilermakers are represented nine total times:

In the team event rankings, the men and women are both ranked in 10 total events. The men lead the way with a No. 3 ranking in the 60-meter dash and are in the top-25 in the mile (No. 11), 3,000-meter run (No. 12), 200-meter dash (No. 14) and long jump (No. 19). The women are led by a No. 13-ranking in the high jump and also are in the top-25 in the 400-meters (No. 23) and 60-meters (No. 25).

Up next, Purdue travels to Nashville for the Music City Invitational, from Feb. 14-15. Competition at Vanderbilt begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, and at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15. Additionally, the Boilermaker distance runners will travel to the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. The meet is set to begin at noon ET/11 a.m. CT, both days.
 
Last weekend, junior Brian Faust broke a pair of program records and two more top-10 marks in program history were set as Purdue competed at the Meyo Invite in Notre Dame, Indiana, from Feb. 7-8. Faust broke his own school record in both the 600-meter (1:17.20) and 400-meter (46.68), placing first and third in each event, respectively. Additionally, sophomore Jessica Bray recorded the fifth-best pole vault mark (4.11m) in school history and freshman Johnny Vanos notched the No. 6-ranked weight throw mark in Purdue history (20.26m). In total at the two-day meet, the Boilermakers notched 14 personal-record times and had 12 top-10 finishes.
