"It's always good to open the season at home," Purdue coach Norbert Elliott said. "It's an early start for us, but it gives our kids, who have been training for a long time, an opportunity to see where they're at. They've been training hard, and this sets the stage for them as they go into finals to let them know where they are and what they can focus on during the break, so when they come back, we'll be ready to go."

A Look Back at 2018-19
Purdue is coming off a strong 2018-19 track & field season, where the men finished third at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and fourth at the conference indoor meet before a 36th-place team finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The Boilermaker women finished ninth at the Big Ten outdoor meet and 10th at the indoor event.

At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, Waseem Williams finished fourth in the 100-meter dash, breaking his own school record and notching the highest finish by a Boilermaker at the national meet in event history. The Purdue men competed in seven events and collected five All-America accolades, with Williams, the 4x100-meter relay, Jah Strange and Tamar Greene in the triple jump and Isaiah Martin in the decathlon being recognized.

Seven of Purdue's eight outdoor NCAA participants are back in 2019-20, including every All-American.

The Boilermaker men concluded the outdoor season ranked No. 36 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Last Season's Season Opener and Fred Wilt Open
In the 2018-19 season opener, held at the Hoosier Open on Dec. 7, two program records were set, by Brian Faust and Samara Miller in the men's and women's 500-meter dash. At last year's Fred Wilt Open, on Feb. 1-2, 2019, the Boilermakers notched 41 top-three finishes and won 14 events.

Up Next: Gene Edmonds Open
The Boilermakers have a month off from competition before they host the Gene Edmonds Open from January 10-11, at Lambert Fieldhouse. The two-day event will be the second of two home meets to open the season for Purdue and the last at home in the 2019-20 campaign.
