WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team heads to TPC River's Bend in Maineville, Ohio this week for the 2019 Big Ten Championships, chasing their seventh conference championship and first since 2013. The Boilermakers enter the weekend as one of the top-five ranked teams in the conference, sitting at No. 33 in the nation after the Lady Boilermaker Classic.
The Boilermakers are coming off a second-place team finish at the Lady Boilermaker Classic, hosted by Purdue on Saturday at Ackerman-Allen Golf Course. They shot four-over par as a team in the rain-shortened, 36-hole event, led by a two-under 142 from sophomore Inez Wanamarta. She posted back-to-back rounds of 71 on her home course, sinking seven birdies over the two trips around, while freshman Danielle du Toit finished one-over 145 with a team-high nine birdies.
The Big Ten Championship format puts six players on the course, taking the top-four scores from each team to account for the team total. The Boilermakers will run back the same lineup from last weekend, featuring Wanamarta, Du Toit, senior Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, junior Micaela Farah, sophomore Lauren Guiao and freshman RuQing Guan.
It marks the first conference championship event for Du Toit, Guiao and Guan, while the other three Boilermakers have combined for a trio of top-20 individual finishes over the last two seasons and several all-conference awards. Wanamarta is the defending Big Ten Freshman of the Year after setting Purdue freshman records for stroke average, rounds of par or better and rounds in the 60's, while Farah is a two-time all-conference honoree.
Play begins Friday at TPC River's Bend and features 54 holes over three days of competition.
