SAN ANTONIO – The 2018 Purdue track & field outdoor season kicks off Friday and Saturday with the UTSA Invitational. This marks the third straight season the Boilermakers open the campaign in San Antonio.
The meet is scheduled to begin Friday at 2 p.m. ET with field events, followed by running events at 8 p.m. ET. On Saturday, field events will start at Noon, followed by running events at 3 p.m. ET. Events will occur on a rolling schedule.
Purdue is coming off the Big Ten Indoor Championships, where it notched 10 podium finishes. The Boilermakers were led by silver medalists Jalil Brewer (shot put), Brian Faust (600-meter), Tamar Greene (triple jump), Sara Loesch (weight throw), Janae' Moffitt (high jump) and Waseem Williams (60-meter).
Brewer was selected as an indoor All-American, after qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships and finishing 16th. The redshirt sophomore is the first men's thrower to earn the indoor honor since 2016 and enters the outdoor season ranking No. 4 in Purdue history.
In total, 14 current Boilermakers (eight women and six men) hold some of the top marks in the program's outdoor record book. Meanwhile, three Boilermakers: Emma Benner (5,000-meter), Jaret Carpenter (5,000-meters) and Williams (100-meters) have clocked in the fastest times in Purdue history.
