Women's Tennis Set to Start Spring Season

The Purdue women's tennis will host a double-header Saturday, welcoming DePaul and Butler to the Schwartz Tennis Center.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team brings back seven  of eight players from last year to open the spring season. The Boilermakers will host a double-header Saturday at Schwartz Tennis Center. The first match against DePaul will begin at 10 a.m. ET, with the second match at 3:30 p.m. against Butler. 

Noteworthy From Last Fall
Senior Silvia Ambrosio made history last fall when she broke into the top 20 for ITA singles rankings at No. 19. It marked the highest in Purdue's history by 10 places. The previous highest ranking was held by Hala Sufi at No. 29 in 2006. Ambrosio also won the Milwaukee Classic and defeated multiple ranked opponents, including No. 10 Michaela Gordon from Stanford. 

Zala Dovnik went undefeated at the final tournament of the fall at UNLV. She was hailed champion after she defeated Danielle Burich of Iowa 6-1, 7-5 in the sixth and final flight. Dovnik also earned second place at the Purdue Invitational in the Purdue Singles Draw. 

Two other Boilermakers found success at UNLV, as junior Caitlin Calkins and sophomore Seira Shimizu won their doubles flight.

Series History
The Boilermakers lead the all-time series against DePaul 7-2 with all matches played in West Lafayette. The first meeting between the two teams was in 2003. Purdue continued the winning streak over the Blue Demons with five straight victories before losing for the first time in 2008. 

The past two years the Boilermakers have swept the Bulldogs 7-0, bringing the all-time series record to 9-0. 

Boiler Notes
Since head coach Laura Glitz has been at Purdue, the Boilermakers are 13-2 in home openers, including double-headers.
