Following a career performance and a pair of Purdue wins, redshirt senior Sherridan Atkinson was named Big Ten Player of the Week.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.  -  Following a career performance and a pair of Purdue wins, redshirt senior Sherridan Atkinson was named Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference Monday, October 29.

Averaging 4.89 kills per set on a .448 hitting percentage, the veteran guided No. 13 Purdue to a 3-1 win over Rutgers and a 3-2 upset over then-No. 4 Penn State.

In Friday's win over Rutgers, Atkinson led the Boilermakers with 12 kills, four aces and three blocks. Behind her effort, Purdue set a season-high 17 team blocks and 13 aces.

Atkinson followed Friday's performance with a career-best and match-high 32 kills on Saturday, helping Purdue rally for a five-set comeback against the nationally ranked Nittany Lions. She is the first Boilermaker to register a 30+ kill performance since Annie Drews tallied 33 at Western Kentucky in 2014. Fourteen kills into her stellar performance, the veteran also became the 17th Boilermaker in Purdue program history to notch 1,000 career kills. Danielle Cuttino was the last Boilermaker to achieve the milestone in 2017.

The recognition is Atkinson's third career conference player of the week accolade and second this season after collecting the honor on August 27.

Also on Monday, Purdue checked in at No. 13 in this week's AVCA Top-25 poll. The Boilermakers, who were previously listed at No. 17, last ranked 13th on September 18, 2017.

Purdue hosts Michigan State at Holloway on Wednesday, October 31. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. ET. For tickets please click here.
