. The men's team posted its best finish in program history at Pre-Nationals with its seventh-place showing in the "Men's White" 8k race. The women's team secured 22nd-place in the "Women's White" 6k.

MADISON, Wis. – Cold temperatures and a heavy frost delay did not slow down the Purdue cross country team as they competed in Pre-Nationals at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Saturday afternoon. For the first time in program history, the men's team posted a top-10 finish in the meet after recording seventh-place.

Pre-Nationals hosted 12 of the nation's top-15 ranked men's programs and 11 of the top-15 women's teams. The Purdue men's XC unit competed in the "Men's White" 8k race. Additionally, the women's team ran in the "Women's White" 6k, where they secured 22nd-place.

The men's team averaged a time of 24:31 and notched 234 points while the women tallied 566 with an average time of 21:56.

"This was another great showing by our cross country teams in back-to-back meets," head coach Norbert Elliott said. "They are showing consistency and are focused on doing it according to plan."

Jaret Carpenter led the Boilermakers for the second consecutive race, earning ninth-place. The junior crossed the finish line in 24:00.9 minutes, which also marks as the second race he has finished among the top-15. Purdue sophomore transfer Brody Smith was next with 28th-place in 24:17.5, followed by Curt Eckstein in 31st with a time of 24:19.4. Bailey McIntire registered 80th with his time of 24:56.4 while Jake Hanawalt rounded out the Purdue top-90 timing in at 24:59.1 with his 86th-place finish.

Jenna Halderman paced the women's side, clocking in at 21:29.9 for 69th-place. Emma Benner followed not far behind in 75th-place, recording a time of 21:33.6. Sophomore mores Megan Slamkowski and Kyra Ball were timed at 22:04.1 and 22:15.6, respectively for 125th and 148th-place.
