WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men's golf team returns to action Sunday at the Windon Memorial Classic held at the Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, Illinois.  
 
The two-day, 54-hole tournament will be contested Sunday and Monday on the 7,202-yard, par-72 layout in suburban Chicago.
 
Purdue will bring a combination of seniors Timmy Hildebrand and Jarle Volden, junior Thomas Lewis, sophomores Matt Lloyd, Cole Bradley and Joe Weiler and freshman Andrew Farraye. Five of the members will be on the counting team and one will play as an individual.
 
The field features just one nationally-ranked team, but a slew of other squads on the cusp of the national rankings. In addition, there will be five Big Ten teams in the field (Purdue, Northwestern, Indiana, Michigan State, Michigan).

PURDUE LINEUP
  • Timmy Hildebrand, Senior: Outstanding start to the season, posting a T-11th at the Gopher Invitational and a T-6th at the Fighting Illini Invitational … leads team with a 70.50 stroke average and four of his six rounds have been even or under par … has three rounds in the 60s … posted a final-round 66, a career-best round, in the final round of the Fighting Illini Invite … ranks fifth on Purdue's all-time career strokes average list (73.46).
  • Jarle Volden, Senior: Saw first action of the season at last week's Fighting Illini Invitational, missing the Gopher Invite to play in the World Amateur Team Championships … finished T-53rd at Olympia Fields last weekend … posted a 71.95 stroke average last spring, knocking almost four strokes off his 18-hole stroke average … won the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate in record-breaking fashion last April, posting a tournament-record 204 (70-68-66).
  • Thomas Lewis, Junior: Placed T-70th at the Fighting Illini Invite after finishing T-49th at the Gopher Invitational … was on the counting team in all three rounds at the Gopher Invite … posted his fourth round of even-par or better (in 35 career rounds) in the first round in Minnesota … finished T-8th at the Crooked Stick Invitational last year (Even; 69-74-73=216) … was 19th at the Boilermaker Invitational as a freshman and competed in the NCAA Championships at Rich Harvest Farms in 2017.
  • Cole Bradley, Sophomore: Bradley finished T-44th at the Gopher Invitational and T-60th at the Fighting Illini Invitational … had a strong summer, winning the Indiana Amateur Championship and placing 11th at the Indiana Open … his stroke average a year ago was the seventh-best average by a freshman in school history … two of his three rounds at the Gopher Invitational were even par, marking his ninth and 10th career rounds of even par or better.
  • Joe Weiler, Sophomore: Has posted the second-best score in both tournaments so far this year (T-38th at Gopher Invite; T-49th at Fighting Illini Invite) … Weiler appeared in nine events last year, averaging 74.58 strokes per round, good for 11th on the all-time Purdue freshman list … posted eight rounds of even-par or better while recording four top-35 finishes … led the team at the prestigious Tavistock Invitational a year ago with a 31st-place showing.
  • Matt Lloyd, Sophomore: Has played well in qualifying and will be on the counting team for the first time in his career … finished sixth at the Pioneer Creek Collegiate as an individual earlier this year (73-69-72=214; -2) … boasting an outstanding short game, Lloyd recorded 11 birdies at the Pioneer Creek Collegiate … won the California state high school championship as a senior and was named a USA Today first-team All-American.
  • Andrew Farraye, Freshman: Returns to the lineup after playing in the season-opening Gopher Invite … after a tough start, was even-par over the final two rounds (72-70) to move into 52nd place … member of Florida's All-State team after finishing T-10th and T-7th at state championships … led team to the 2015 and 2017 state championships … in one of his final junior events, set the course record with a 65 at the Halifax Country Club at the AJGA's Junior Golf Hub Championship, to finish third in the event.
 
THE COURSE
The Knollwood Club is continually ranked among Illinois' top courses (19th by Golf Digest this year), having hosted the 1956 U.S. Amateur and the 1981 USGA Mid-Amateur. The course has hosted the Windon Memorial Classic twice previously in 2000 and 2013. Located on 240 acres of rolling terrain, the course was designed by H.S. Colt and C.H. Alison and has hosted several high-profile events.

WINDON MEMORIAL CLASSIC HISTORY
Purdue has been a regular in the Windon Memorial Classic, winning the event in 2015 with former Boilermaker Brian Carlson earning medalist honors. Purdue owns the tournament record, posting a school-record 830 during the 2015 championship (281-272-277). Peter Richardson won individual medalist honors in both 2003 and 2004, the only multiple winner in the event's 21-year history.
