Full CSCAA Release of Scholar All-Americans
NORFOLK, Va. - Eight NCAA Championships qualifiers were recognized for their academic excellence to headline the 19 members of Purdue swimming & diving honored as Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.
All 19 Boilermakers recognized compiled grade-point averages of 3.5 and higher during the 2017-18 school year. Those with 3.5-plus GPAs that qualified for the NCAA Championships earned Scholar All-America accolades. Eleven additional Purdue swimmers were recognized for their high GPAs coupled with at least one NCAA provisional qualifying time (B Cut), earning honorable mention acclaim.
Swimmers Marat Amaltdinov, Megan Johnson, Kaersten Meitz and Jinq En Phee as well as divers Emily Bretscher Steele Johnson, Brandon Loschiavo and Lexi Vincent all represented the Boilermakers in at least one event at the NCAA Championships.
Purdue's honorable mention Scholar All-Americans included Danielle Auckley, Cady Farlow, Hanna House, Riley Kishman and Natalie Myers from the women's team as well as Alex Close, Gabi Gomez-Treig, Grant Lewis, Nick McDowell, Trent Pellini and Jake Thomas from the men's team. Auckley, Farlow, House, Lewis, McDowell and Pellini all posted B Cuts in multiple events this past season.
2018 HIGHLIGHTS FOR PURDUE'S SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICANS
• Steele Johnson repeated as the NCAA champion in 3-meter diving while also winning the event at the Big Ten Championships. He earned Purdue Male Athlete of the Year honors for the second time in his career.
• Kaersten Meitz qualified for the NCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive year as an individual, earning All-America honors in the 500 free.
• Brandon Loschiavo won the Big Ten title on platform and was an honorable mention All-American in the event at NCAAs.
• Marat Amaltdinov earned Academic All-America honors for the second year in a row and was also Purdue Athletics' male recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor.
• Lexi Vincent was an All-American in platform diving for the second year in a row.
• Jinq En Phee earned All-America honors in the 100 breaststroke in her debut at the NCAA Championships.
• Emily Bretscher scored in all three diving events at Big Tens as a freshman.
• Megan Johnson helped Purdue's 800 free relay team qualify for NCAAs for the first time since 2015.
Amaltdinov, Auckley, House, Lewis, McDowell, Phee and Thomas were all recognized by the CSCAA for the second year in a row. Megan Johnson, Bretscher, Gomez-Treig, Kishman, Myers and Pellini was honored as freshmen.
Along with having a combined 45 Academic All-Big Ten student-athletes during the 2017-18 school year, the Purdue swimming & diving programs both maintained team GPAs above 3.0 during the fall and spring semesters. They were honored as CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams in both January and June. The women's 3.52 team GPA during the spring semester was second in the Big Ten. The men's 3.32 GPA during the fall semester was also second best in the conference.
Big Ten Distinguished Scholars will be announced later this summer. Those student-athletes are recognized for 3.7-plus GPAs.
