Carpenter Breaks 5k Record for T&F

Sophomore Jaret Carpenter broke the 5,000-meter school record at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Stanford. He ran the No. 23 time in the country, and second in the Big Ten, crossing the line in 13:44.09, which broke Matthew McClintock's previous record by 12.71 seconds.

Freshman Curtis Eckstein also had a good race in the 5,000 meters. He won the open section with a time of 14:07.34, a personal record. His time ranks seventh in school history. Jacob Hanawalt was seventh in the open 5k. He finished just off his personal record with a time of 14:23.46.

Cole Hester and Gabrielle Broschard were in the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechases, respectively. Hester ran a time of 9:24.66, while Broschard crossed the line in 10:40.43.

Grace Lachmund was the top Boilermaker in the women's 5k. She finished with a time of 16:45.91.

The Boilermakers are back in action next week at the Drake Relays.
