WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The track & field teams competed at two meets Friday. The Boilermakers had competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays and Louisville Invitational.
The hammer throwers opened up the Louisville Invitational. Micaela Hazlewood led the women's group with a throw of 58.00 meters (190-3). It was her best throw of the season and the third best of her career. Hazlewood finished third in the event. Luke Lewis led the men's group with his sixth place finish. Lewis threw 54.29m (178-1).
Late Thursday night at the Mt. SAC Relays, Gabrielle Broschard and Emma Benner added their names to the top 10 lists in program history. Broschard ran a personal record time of 10:33.95. That ranks eighth in school history. Benner ran her first career 10,000-meter run. She finished with a time of 34:19.41, which ranks fourth in program history.
Friday at Mt. SAC, Kiara McIntosh finished ninth in the 800m run. She crossed the line in 2:08.86. Jaret Carpenter ran in the 5k and finished with a time of 14:19.76.
Three Boilermakers were scheduled to compete in the women's 1,500-meter run at the Bryan Clay Invitational in California, but pulled out.
Saturday will be a busy day for the Boilermakers at the Louisville Invitational. The team will compete in all of remaining events - every event except the hammer, which was contested Friday.
