Boilermakers Home Again Friday

Jan. 25, 2017

Live Stream / WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The women's tennis team looks to improve to 5-0 Friday, taking on Washington State at home. This is only the second meeting between the two schools and the first in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The Boilermakers and Cougars first met in 2013 during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Evanston, Illinois. The squads were two of 60 schools competing in the national event hosted by 15 different programs - Northwestern accommodated the Northwestern Region that year. No. 2 seed Purdue defeated No. 3 seed Washington State 4-3 in the first round

Head coach Laura Glitz is confident this year's team can produce a similar result

"We have a fiery bunch of athletes this year; each is hungry to go out and compete every day," Glitz said. "In our last match against Xavier, I really saw the team's fight. We had to battle back in several matches, but the women wanted that W. Xavier is a talented team and to win 5-2 really shows our determination. I know we're prepared to compete again against Washington State on Friday

The match is the first solo competition of the season for the Boilermakers and is the first to take place on a weekday. The previous four matches were a part of weekend doubleheaders. Play begins at 1 p.m. and is free to the public; the match will also be live-streamed on PurdueSports.com.
