GOLF, Ill. - The 16th-ranked Purdue women's golf team is in seventh place after two rounds of the Windy City Collegiate Classic, hosted by Northwestern on Monday at the Golf View Club, shooting five-over, 291-290=581. Senior August Kim and junior Linn Andersson led the squad, shooting matching marks of two-under, 142, over 36 holes and sit tied for eighth place in the individual standings.
The Boilermakers got off to a solid start Monday, shooting three-over, 291, for the first 18 holes, paced by Kim's score of two-under, 70. Kim made par on 13 of her first 14 holes of the day, save a bogey on the par-4 fifth, but finished up making birdie on three of her final four to wrap up the round tied for eighth place. Sophomore Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri had an outstanding start to her season debut, shooting even-par, 72, in the opening round. She made 10 straight pars to begin the day and dropped in birdies on No. 11 and No. 13 to surge up the leaderboard. However she finished up with two bogeys down the stretch to come in even. Andersson registered the third team score of the round, shooting one-over, 73, while classmate Marta Martin and freshman Hashilla Rivai halved the final team score at four-over, 76.
It was Andersson's turn in the second round as she matched her collegiate-best round with a three-under, 69, to lead the squad. She dropped in five birdies for her second 18 of the day, including three on the back-nine, and nearly set a new career-best if not for a bogey on the par-4 18th. Kim had a tough start to the second round, making two bogeys in the first nine holes, but rebounded on the back-nine with birdies on No. 12 and No. 17 to make it in at even-par. Putri was solid again, shooting one-over, 73, and finishing the day tied for 23rd at one-over par. Rivai turned in the final team score with her second four-over, 76, of the day.
No. 9 Georgia sits on the team lead at 12-under par, 564, posting matching team scores of six-under, 282, in the first two rounds. Third-ranked USC is four strokes back at eight-under, 568, while defending NCAA Runner-Up Stanford is third at three-under, 573. Georgia's Bailey Tardy holds the individual lead at nine-under, 135, including an opening-round, six-under, 66, while Northwestern's Hannah Kim and Duke's Leona Maguire are tied for second at eight-under, 136.
The Boilermakers tee off in the third round tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. ET, paired with Arizona and Iowa State for the final 18 holes.
