SOUTH BEND, Indiana - The Purdue women's golf team got action underway Thursday at the NCAA South Bend Regional, hosted by Notre Dame at the Warren Golf Course, shooting 11-over, 299. The Boilermakers are tied for ninth place in the team standings, but just four strokes separate fourth place from 10th place, overall.

The Boilermakers came out of the gates red hot Thursday morning, racing out to a score of four-under as all five players carded a birdie on the second hole. Purdue ate up the 462-yard, par-five, taking the very early lead on the field, but then settled in with the rest of the teams, making the turn at two-over.

Similar to the Big Ten Championships, the Boilermakers struggled with the back-nine on the first day, and were unable to card another birdie until the par-five, 17th hole. Freshman Marta Martin and junior Anna Appert Lund accounted for the two birdies, keeping the Boilermakers within three shots of the NCAA Championships team cut.

Martin shot the Boilermakers' top individual score on the day, making a pair of birdies on her way to a round of one-over, 73, good for a tie for 16th place, individually. Sophomore August Kim is one stroke behind Martin at two-over, 74, while Appert Lund and senior Aurora Kan sit at four-over, 76.

Duke owns the team lead at even-par, 288, led by Celine Boutier's five-under, 67. The Blue Devils have a five-shot lead on Wake Forest, while Arizona and UC Davis sit at six-over and seven-over par, respectively. Kent State and Oklahoma State round out the top-six, tied at eight-over, 296.
