BRADENTON, Fla. - The Purdue women's golf team finished 12th in stroke play at the 2015 NCAA Championships, shooting a four-day score of 70-over par, 1,222, at The Concession Golf Club. The Boilermakers were one of just 15 teams to advance to the fourth day of stroke play, and turned in their 12th top-12 finish at the national championships over the last 16 years.
The Boilermakers struggled on their final 18 holes of The Concession, shooting 17-over on the front side and six-over on the back nine on Monday. They made just six birdies on the afternoon, including four from freshman Marta Martin, who was Purdue's top individual finisher for the tournament. Martin finished her first collegiate 72-hole tournament at 13-over par, 301, tying for 25th place overall, including Monday's score of four-over, 76.
Junior Anna Appert Lund, senior Aurora Kan and sophomore August Kim accounted for Purdue's three other team scores on Monday as Appert Lund shot her best round of the weekend at five-over, 77, while Kan and Kim posted matching scores of seven-over, 79. Freshman Linn Andersson was unable to register a team score in the final round, but was the Boilermakers' No. 2 individual finisher, tying for 41st place at 17-over par, 305.
The top eight teams from stroke play move on to start match play tomorrow, as the field features USC, Stanford, Duke, Baylor, Arizona, Tennessee, Texas Tech and Washington. The NCAA crowned its 2015 individual champion on Monday as Alabama's Emma Talley finished three-under par, 285, over four days, including a final round mark of three-under, 69.
The Boilermakers have now played at the NCAA Championships in 15 of the last 16 seasons.
