SOUTH BEND, Indiana - The Purdue women's golf team caught fire at Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course on Friday, firing a five-under score of 283 and surging into second place at the NCAA South Bend Regional. The Boilermakers absolutely dominated the course, making 14 birdies and an eagle as their team score was six shots better than the next-best squad on the course.

Purdue is six-over par, 299-283=582, for the tournament, sitting five shots back from Duke, which leads the regional at one-over, 288-289=577. The Boilermakers' 283 tied the 12th-best single-day team score in school history and is their second-best round ever at an NCAA event, following a 280 at the 2010 national championships.

Sophomore August Kim got the Boilermakers cooking on Friday, making an eagle on the par-five No. 2 and following it up with birdies on the third, sixth and seventh holes to move as low as four-under on the day. Seniors Aurora Kan and Anna Appert Lund followed Kim's lead on the front side, both shooting even-par as Purdue made the turn at one-under as a team.

The back-nine gave the Boilermakers fits on Thursday, but they put the pieces together on Friday as they sank eight birdies and carved four more strokes off their team score. Kan and Appert Lund played outstanding, each sinking seven pars and a pair of birdies, as Kan made hers on No. 17 and No. 18, while Appert Lund shaved strokes on No. 12 and No. 17. Kim was even on the back-nine, making one birdie and one bogey, while freshman Marta Martin posted the final team score of the day, shooting two-over, 74.

Kim's three-under, 69, moves her to one-under for the tournament and she sits tied for fifth, individually. Kan and Appert Lund are tied for 15th at two-over par, while Martin is just inside the top-20, tied for 20th at three-over.

Duke holds the top-two spots on the individual leaderboard as Celine Boutier is five-under par, while teammate Leona Maguire is four-under par. Arizona's Lindsey Weaver is three-under par, while Memphis' Michaela Fletcher, playing as an individual, is fourth at two-under par.
