WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -Â Forty Boilermakers are headed to the Des Moines, Iowa, this weekend for the prestigious Drake Relays. Purdue will compete at the event on Friday and Saturday.
The women have a strong group in the 100-meter dash, led by Devynne Charlton, Savannah Carson and Carmiesha Cox. Charlton and Carson are within 0.01 of a second of the school record with personal-record times of 11.66 seconds. Charlton will also compete in the 100m hurdles, where she will get a taste of the upcoming Big Ten Championships. The sophomore will be up against runners from Ohio State, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan and Nebraska.
Symone Black will continue to chase the school record in the 400m hurdles. Black, the indoor Big Ten Freshman of the Year, already ranks fourth in the event and is within 0.79 of a second of the program standard. The women will also compete in several relays, from the traditional 4x100m and 4x400m, to the lesser contested shuttle hurdle relay, 4x200m and 1600 sprint medley relay.

On the men's side, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi looks to continue building week in and week out in the shot put and hammer throw. The junior has broken his own school record in the hammer each of the last two weeks and will be back at it this weekend. Obokhare Ikpefan is scheduled to compete in the 400m hurdles where he currently has the second fastest time in school history. He will run in the second heat of the event.
Tyler Askew has had his most consistent back-to-back meets in the long jump. He is back at it after recording the sixth-best mark in school history at the Jim Click Shootout in Arizona. Anaquan Peterson and Byron Ferrell will also represent the Purdue jumpers, with Peterson competing in the triple jump and Ferrell in the pole vault. Both had outdoor PRs last weekend.
