AUSTIN, Texas - The Boilermakers opened the Texas Relays on Thursday afternoon. Six Boilermakers competed and one made it back for finals of two that had an opportunity.
Symone Black was among the top nine finishers out of 75 in the 400-meter hurdles on Thursday. The freshman ran a time of 59.20 seconds in her second career race in the event. Her time was fifth-best in the prelims and qualifies her for the nine-runner final.
Dillon Hinen ran a personal record in the men's 1,500-meter run Thursday. He finished in 3:54.88 to improve upon his previous best by 1.17 seconds. Hinen took fourth in the men's college section B final. Tyler Wynn was also in the race and took ninth with a time of 3:57.26.
Kristin Fritts ran her first steeplechase of the season. She finished fifth with a time of 10:59.66. Elsewhere, Byron Ferrell competed in the pole vault and took 24th after clearing 4.90m (16-0.75). Obokhare Ikpefan ran in the men's 400m hurdles and took 33rd with a time of 53.29 seconds.
The Boilermakers will be busy Friday with 16 entries in the Texas Relays. Black will compete in her finals, while Devynne Charlton, Cierra Brown and Tyler Askew, among others, will kick off their meet. Heat sheets for Friday's action can be found at the top of the page.
