Feb. 25, 2015

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Purdue men's golf junior Stuart Macdonald was named the Big Ten's Golfer of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Macdonald led the Boilermakers to a fifth-place finish at the prestigious Puerto Rico Classic over the weekend by finishing 10th with a career-low 3-under par 213 (72-73-68). The field included three of the nation's top 10 teams and 12 teams that were ranked in the nation's top 70. Individually, six of the top 16 golfers in the country were in the field.

Macdonald pieced together his third career top-10 finish and second of the year, coming in his sixth event. His final-round 68 was a career-best round and the lowest in relation to par for a Purdue golfer this year.

Macdonald ranks third on the team in stroke average at 73.93 strokes per round. Macdonald has excelled this year in the third round, posting a 71.80 stroke average in six rounds. He also leads the team in eagles with four. The rest of the team has a combined two eagles on the year. Macdonald leads the team in par-5 scoring as well, at 18-under par.

Macdonald is Purdue's first Big Ten Golfer of the Week since Adam Schenk won the award last year on March 5, 2014.

Purdue will compete in the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate in Scottsdale, Ariz., on March 6-7.
