RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women's golf team jumped up one spot in the team standings at the second day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic, played at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course on Monday, shooting 12-over, 300 to move to seventh place overall. Sophomore August Kim repeated her opening-round even-par mark, shooting 72 and moving up into a tie for third-place individually.
Kim's second-round score was very similar to the first day, as she made four birdies to go with four bogies and finish even for the afternoon. She had a slow start, making bogey on three of her first four holes, but rebounded to birdie four of the next five and get back under par. Kim scored a bogey on her 10th hole, but was even-par for the final seven to come in at 72 for the day and 144 for the tournament.
Freshman Marta Martin bounced back from an opening-round 76, to shoot a one-over, 73 on Monday, recovering from an early double-bogey with birdies on No. 15 and No. 5, and climbing up into a tie for 20th in the individual standings. Junior Anna Appert Lund improved her round by one shot from yesterday, coming in at two-over, 74, and standing five-over for the tournament, also tied for 20th with Martin. Seniors Aurora Kan and Johanna Tillstrom had tough days on the course, both shooting nine-over, 81, for the final team mark of the round. Freshman Linn Andersson continued her individual play with an eight-over, 80, and is tied for 46th in the standings.
After a tough start to the day, Arkansas rallied to secure its place at the top of the team leaderboard, shooting seven-over, 295 to finishing the second day at nine-over for the tournament. Iowa State remains two shots back in second place, while LSU had the top team round of the day at four-over, 292, and sits third, just three shots off the lead. Cyclone Chonlada Chayanun remains at the top of the individual leaderboard, turning in the top round for the second straight day at three-under, 69, and sitting nine-under, 135 for the tournament. Resting with an eight-shot lead on the field, Chayanun shared the day's top mark with LSU's Caroline Nistrup, who is tied for third with Kim at even par.
