RIO GRANDE, P.R. - The Purdue women's golf team opened its spring schedule on Sunday, hosting the 13th-annual Lady Puerto Rico Classic at the Rio Mar Country Club River Course. The Boilermakers sit in eighth place in the team standings, shooting 12-over par (300), while sophomore August Kim posted the top individual mark for Purdue, finishing tied for eighth, individually, at even-par, 72.

Kim had four of the Boilermakers' 14 birdies on the day, rebounding from a tough few holes early in the round to go one-under on the back-nine. Junior Anna Appert Lund got off to a great start on the day, sitting three-under after 12 holes, but struggled late in the round, finishing three-over, 75, despite a birdie on her final hole. Freshman Marta Martin and senior Aurora Kan rounded out the Boilermakers' team score with marks of four-over, 76 and five-over, 77, respectively, while senior Johanna Tillström had a tough day on the course, finishing nine-over, 81. Freshman Linn Andersson played individually for the Boilermakers, carding a three-over, 75 and sitting tied for 28th individually.

Defending Lady Puerto Rico Classic champion Arkansas leads the team race with an opening-round, two-over, 290, but is followed closely by Kent State at three-over, 291, TCU and Iowa State, which are tied for third at five-over, 293. Iowa State's Chonlada Chayanun tied the Lady Puerto Rico Classic opening-round record with a six-under, 66, and owns a three-shot lead on the field going into the second day.
