Women's Golf Tied For Fourth At NCAA Central Regional

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 33rd-ranked Purdue women's golf team is tied for fourth place with No. 22 Oregon at the 2012 NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. Top-seed and third-ranked Southern California (298-290-588) continues to lead, while No. 12 Vanderbilt (308-292=600) moved into second place and No. 27 Virginia (308-296=604) took over third.

The Boilermakers shot a 307 and with a 608 are tied for fourth with one round remaining.

Junior Paula Reto still claims the highest spot on the leaderboard for the Boilermakers with a tie for ninth, but it was junior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon who recorded the low round of the day for Purdue. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native carded a one-over par 73 on Friday to move up to a tie for 15th with a two-round total of 151. The Big Ten Player of the Year opened with a 78 but returned to form in the second round, recording an eagle on hole No. 12 to go along with pars and three bogeys for her one-over score.

Reto opened the tournament with a 71 but carded a 77 on day two for a total of 148 and a tie for ninth place with one round to play.

Redshirt junior Kishi Sinha is tied for 33rd with a score of 153. The Noida, India, native shot a 79 after opening with a 74. Freshman Vicky Scherer was the other counting score for Purdue with her second-straight 78. The Augsburg, Germany, native is tied for 47th at 156.

Aurora Kan improved by one stroke, firing an 81 after an 82 on Thursday and is tied for 100th with a 163. The highlight of Kan's round was an eagle on hole No. 4.

Southern Cal's Lisa McCloskey shot a four-under 68 to take control of the individual leaderboard with a three-under 141. Two other individuals fired 68s on the day and three are tied for second overall with a one-under 143.

The 54-hole tournament is being held at the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course, a par-72, 6,264-yard venue. Twenty-four teams and six individuals are competing at each of the three NCAA Regional sites from May 10 to 12. The top eight teams and two individuals from each site will advance to the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships to be held in Franklin, Tenn., on May 22 to 25.

Purdue is looking to advance to its 13th-consecutive NCAA Championships, all under head coach Devon Brouse. The Boilermakers won the 2010 NCAA title and were runners up last year.

The No. 11-seed Boilermakers will tee off from hole No. 10 beginning at 9:06 a.m. ET on Saturday and will be paired with No. 7-seed Oregon and No. 2-seed Auburn. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com and the final results will be posted to purduesports.com.
