Women's Golf Finishes Eighth At LSU Tiger Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 27th-ranked Boilermakers shot a 304 on Sunday to move up one spot to eighth in the final standings of the LSU Tiger Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La., with a final score of 907 (311-312-304).

No. 22 Tennessee (298-289-293=880) earned the team title with a two-stroke advantage over host LSU (295-292-295=882) and North Carolina (301-300-288=889) was third.

Laura Gonzalez-Escallon saved her best round of the tournament for the final day, firing a one-over par 73 to finish tied for seventh with a total score of 222 (74-75-73, +6). North Carolina's Catherine O'Donnell (72-71-71=214) and Erica Popson (75-70-69=214) of Tennessee tied for first at two-under par.

Purdue junior Paula Reto also shot a 73 on Sunday and finished in a tie for 20th with a final tally of 228 (78-77-73). Kishi Sinha tied for 44th (79-78-77=234) while freshman Kendall Dusenberry, playing in just her second collegiate touranment, finished 65th (80-82-83=245). Freshman Vicky Scherer finished with her best round of the event, firing an 81 on Sunday for 78th place with a total of 255.

Freshman Aurora Kan played as an individual and recorded a tie for 62nd with a final round 81 and a total score of 244.

The Boilermakers will head to Augusta, Ga., over the spring vacation to compete at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate on March 16 to 18.
