No. 7 Women's Golf In Third

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The seventh-ranked Boilermakers are in third place after firing a 295 in the first round of the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego, Calif., and trail No. 2 UCLA by two strokes. The Bruins are in first place after firing a 293 and No. 25 UC Davis is in second at 294.

Purdue's Laura Gonzalez-Escallon is in second place as an individual. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native fired a two-under par 70 in the first round, recording three birdies and just one bogey on Sunday. Gonzalez-Escallon is ranked No. 27 by Golfweek and is coming of a 13th-place finish at the Administaff Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate.

Arizona State's Giulia Molinaro is in first place after carding a three-under par 69 on Sunday.

Senior Numa Gulyanamitta is tied for ninth place after recording a one-over par 73 in the first round. Gulyanamitta is Purdue's top-ranked individual at No. 24. Freshman Alex Stewart fired a 75 on Sunday and is tied for 26th with two rounds to play.

Maude-Aimee LeBlanc recorded two double-bogeys on the front nine to go along with a birdie, and bogeyed two holes on the back to card a five-over par 77. The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native is tied for 43rd place.

Big Ten Golfer of the Week, Paula Reto carded the non-counting round for the Boilermakers with an 81 in the first round. Reto is tied for 72nd place. Senior Thea Hoffmeister is playing as an individual and is tied for ninth after opening with a 73.

Purdue will tee off beginning at 1:30 p.m. ET on Monday at the Championship Golf Course at Rancho Bernardo Inn Golf Resort & Spa. The course is set up as a par-72, 6,336-yard venue for the 54-hole tournament.
