No. 6 Women's Golf Tied For 11th In Round One

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The sixth-ranked Boilermakers are tied for 11th after one round at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Intercollegiate Golf Championship in New Orleans, La. Purdue opened with a 302, led by senior Maude-Aimee LeBlanc's 72 on Sunday.

Tournament host, No. 15 Tulane has a two-stroke lead over No. 5 Duke (290) after recording an even-par 288 at the English Turn Golf and Country Club, a par-72, 6,105-yard venue. Duke's Laetitia Beck fired a six-under par 66 to hold a three-stroke lead with two rounds to play. LSU is in third place (291) but has two golfers tied for second. Jacqueline Hedwall and top-ranked Megan McChrystal each carded a 69 in the first round.

Purdue is tied with Auburn and Texas A&M for 11th place but are just 14 strokes out of first.

In her first tournament of the spring, LeBlanc recorded the low round of the day for the Boilermakers with an even-par 72. The Sherbrooke, Quebec, native had five birdies and five bogeys to finish even for the day and tied for 11th place.

Senior Numa Gulyanamitta and sophomore Laura Gonzalez-Escallon each carded a three-over par 75 on Sunday and are tied for 33rd. Sophomore Paula Reto is tied for 73rd after opening with an 80.

The Boilermakers will resume action on Monday morning.
