ORLANDO, Fla. - The Purdue women's tennis team captured a team victory in singles over Missouri's squad on Saturday, claiming five of seven face-offs at the University of Central Florida Invitational.
Boilermakers capturing wins were freshman Mara Schmidt, who extended a singles win streak to four matches, ITA preseason No. 82 ranked junior Jenny Rabot, senior Bhavani Tirumurti, and sophomores Gisella Pere and Imogen Golder.
In the top singles spot, Rabot (Bishop's Stortford, England) cruised past Kaitlyn Ritchie 6-3, 6-3, while at No. 2 Schmidt (Bradenton) defeated Mallory Weber in three sets 0-6, 6-0, 6-2. Tirumurti (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Golder (Auckland, New Zealand), at singles No. 3 and 6 respectively, both eased past their opponents in two sets. Tirumurti beat Jamie Mera 6-3, 7-5 and Golder routed Mahdi Besovic 6-1, 6-0. Pere (Guayaquil, Ecuador) was victorious over Rachel Stuhlmann 6-3, 3-6, (10-8) in the 5th singles spot.
Earlier Saturday, the Old Gold and Black faced Arkansas in doubles, falling in two of three matches. However, victorious for the second day in a row was Golder and Tirumurti 8-5 over Emily Carbone and Stephanie Roy at No. 3 doubles.
Purdue faces Central Florida in doubles on Sunday followed by singles against Arkansas.
Purdue holds a 4-3 dual-match all-time series record over Missouri while the Boilermakers have only ever faced Central Florida and Arkansas once.
