Purdue Finishes Fifth

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- - The eighth-ranked Purdue women's golf team carded a 282 in the final round of the Ping/ASU Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course on Sunday. By recording their lowest score in the third and final round, the Boilermakers moved up one spot to finish in fifth place with a three-round total of 864 (E) - just one stroke behind fourth-place New Mexico.

Second-ranked UCLA earned the tournament title with a final score of 856, one shot better than top-ranked Arizona State. The Bruins used a 279 in the final round to move ahead of host Arizona State who had led after the first two rounds. Fifth-ranked USC finished in third with a cumulative score of 854 (-6).

UCLA's Stephanie Kono, who fired a tournament-low 66 on Sunday, carded a three-round total of 207 to edge Jennifer Song of USC by one stroke for the individual title.

Purdue junior Maude-Aimee LeBlanc fired three consecutive rounds of one-under 71 to finish in a ninth-place tie with a three-round total of 213 (-3). LeBlanc was coming off of her fourth Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor for her ninth-place finish at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.

Junior Numa Gulyanamitta carded a three-under 69 on Sunday to move into a tie for 19th with a three-round total of 216 (E). Freshman Laura Gonzalez-Escallon finished in a 24th-place tie with a three-round total of 218. Fellow freshman Paula Reto rebounded from a second-round 78 to fire a three-under 69 on Sunday. The round propelled her 17 spots on the leader board into a tie for 34th. Junior Thea Hoffmeister finished in a tie for 51st with a total of 225 (74-75-76).

The Boilermakers will head to Madison, Wis., for the Big Ten Championships held on April 23-25 for their next tournament. Recaps and results will be posted to purduesports.com
