Mother Nature Takes Doubleheader

April 7, 2010

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermaker softball team fought valiantly against Mother Nature on Wednesday, but could not stop the rain from falling and weather forced the cancellation of the twin bill with Ohio State.

The Buckeyes got a run on a hit in the first inning. Alicia Herron drew a two-out walk and scored on a Sam Marder double to center field. After a one hour and 45 minute rain and lightning delay, action resumed at the Varsity Softball Complex and Marder moved to third on a wild pitch, but a strikeout kept her from scoring.

Senior Liane Horiuchi walked to start the home half of the first and stole second, before advancing to third on a sacrifice by Molly Garst. Then, the rains and lightning returned, prompting another half hour rain/lightning timeout before the umpires finally called the games, which will not be rescheduled.

Statistics from the game will not count.

The Boilermakers (16-20, 1-3 Big Ten) return to action at 3 p.m. Saturday when they take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in Iowa City. Cory Palm will call the action live on WSHY 1410 AM and purduesports.com. Live statistics will be available on purduesports.com via the GameTracker feature.
