STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Boilermaker softball team found itself on the short end of a 3-0 score against Iowa State to start Day 2 action at the Bulldog Round Robin. Purdue tallied four hits in the contest and saw senior Brooke Baker strikeout seven batters, but could not muster the win.

The Boilermakers threatened in the opening stanza, but could convert the offensive output into runs. Junior Ashley Hall (Noblesville, Ind.) led off with a single through the left side, then moved to second on a sacrifice by freshman Ashley Barr (Meridian, Idaho). Freshman Kelsey Haupert (Olympia, Wash.) followed with a single to left, then both runners advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch, but a pair of strikeouts left them stranded.

Iowa State jumped on the scoreboard with a run on a hit and an error in the third inning. Ashley Killeen reached on a fielder's choice, then scored on a Katie Reichling double to left.

Purdue put two runners on in the fifth as senior Erika Peterson (Irvine, Calif.) singled and senior Catherine Zaworski (Prospect Heights, Ill.) reached on an error by the third baseman. The Boilermakers were unable to convert the runners into scores.

The Cyclones added to their lead in the fifth as Killeen hit a two-run shot off the top of the wall in right center.

Sophomore Alicia Spack (West Lafayette, Ind.) was hit by a pitch with one out in the seventh to keep hope alive, but was left stranded by a fly out and a strikeout.

The Boilermakers managed four hits in the game, led by Hall's 2-for-3 effort, while ISU put up three runs on five hits and three errors.

Amie Ford (1-1) earned the complete-game win for Iowa State, while senior Brooke Baker (Schererville, Ind.) was charged with the loss despite striking out seven Cyclone batters.

Purdue looks to earn its first victory of the 2007 season when it takes on Kennesaw State beginning at noon (CST).
