The Purdue men's golf team couldn't have asked for a better start to the 2004 fall season.
The Boilermakers finished in a three-way tie for first place with Memphis and Wisconsin to win the 2004 Michigan/ Radrick Farms Intercollegiate on Sunday.
Purdue fired a final-round 295 and totaled an 871 over the two-day event. The Boilermakers led after each of the first two rounds on Saturday. Georgia State placed fourth and Colorado State took fifth.
Purdue was led by sophomore Bobby Bennett, who tied for second place overall. Bennett fired a final-round 73 and totaled a 214. He posted rounds of 70 and 71 on Saturday.
Sophomore transfer Brandon Lawson made an immediate impact in his first tournament with the Boilermakers. Lawson shot an even-par 72 on Sunday and tied for 22nd overall. Lawson transferred to Purdue from Stanford this summer. Sophomore Peter Richardson also tied for 22nd after a final-round 73. Lawson and Richardson both totaled a 224.
Senior Dustin Cone and sophomores Pariya Junhasavasdikul both tied for 39th. The duo each carded a 77 on Sunday and totaled 224 over the 54 holes.
The event was hosted by Michigan and held at the Radrick Farms Golf Course in Ann Arbor. The course is a par 72, 6,979-yard layout.
The Boilermakers last tournament win was at the Boilermaker Invitational last season.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 4 and 5 at the Windon Memorial Classic in Lake Forest, Ill.
