Tom Moreland

In his 6th season with Purdue Athletics, Moreland is responsible for all strategic initiatives and revenue generation for the Boilermakers. In addition, Moreland serves in the area of sports administration for Purdue Athletics with his oversight of Purdue Football.   

Moreland provides direct oversight of the Purdue Athletics ticket office, sales & development unit, business strategy, Purdue Sports Properties, licensing & retail, strategic partnerships, and Purdue Athletics apparel partner, Nike. He also oversees the nationally recognized Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex and Schwartz Tennis Center.

Since his arrival in 2017, Moreland’s efforts have helped drive record growth with an 80 percent increase in revenue for the department, including increased Football season tickets sales by 17,000 tickets and record attendance for Men’s Basketball with a 58-game straight sellout streak. Purdue Athletics has been nationally recognized for its approach on revenue strategy including a formal partnership with the Purdue University Data Science Initiative. 

Under Moreland’s leadership, he and his team have implemented key initiatives including the establishment of a new outbound fan engagement strategy, the creation of a business strategy unit, and an enhanced focus on strategic planning.  During 2020 and 2021, Moreland led the Boilermakers COVID-19 administrative plan in an effort to return to competition, ensure the health and safety of staff and student-athletes, and stabilize pre-pandemic revenue sources.

Moreland came to Purdue University after spending seven years at the University of Iowa where he was responsible for guiding athletics fundraising efforts, including the complete strategy for the $89M Kinnick Stadium Renovation.  From 2010 – 2017, Moreland held various fundraising roles for the Hawkeyes. With his guidance, the athletics department surpassed its comprehensive campaign goal of $240M by $33M, accounting for 14 percent of the university's fundraising productivity. In his final year, the Iowa Athletics Development team set an all-time record fundraising year. 

The Big Ten Conference veteran has collaborated with various departments across campus and extended outreach to greater metropolitan areas to both broaden and deepen University partnerships and fan engagement. He has also been a driving force in the funding and design of nearly $200 million in facility improvements, enhancing both the fan and student-athlete experience.      

In 2009 and 2010, Moreland served as the director of baseball operations and external relations at Arizona State University. During his time, the Sun Devils qualified for the College World Series and finished the season ranked seventh nationally. 

A native of Shorewood, Wisconsin, Moreland earned two Bachelor's degrees from the University of Iowa: Sport Management and Journalism and Mass Communications, a Master's degree in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Purdue. 

He played baseball for the Hawkeyes from 2004 to 2007, receiving the Coaches’ Award for loyalty and effort and twice earning Academic All-Big Ten honors. Tom is married to Jen, who is actively involved in the Purdue community and is an HR executive at a large non-profit. Together, they have one son named Hayes.
