Jay Price

Jay Price is in his 10th season as an assistant coach with the Boilermakers. In his 10 years with the program, Purdue has won three outright Big Ten championships (finished second in 1997), established an impressive 171-61 (.737) record and earned seven NCAA Tournament berths, including two appearances in the [quote]Elite Eight[quote] (1994 and 2000) and three in the [quote]Sweet Sixteen[quote] from 1996 to 1999.

Price has numerous responsibilities with the program. Besides his normal coaching and opponent scouting duties, Price also coordinates recruiting and oversees the summer basketball camps. He is in charge of team travel and scheduling and handles various other administrative tasks.

Price began his coaching career at Oklahoma under former head coach Billy Tubbs, spending two years on the Sooner coaching staff before coming to Purdue. A volunteer coach during the second half of the 1991-92 season, he spent much of his time scouting opponents and working with video, as well as teaching and coaching the Sooner players. He was promoted to Oklahoma's restricted earnings coach during the 1992-93 season, when the Sooners finished 20-12, advanced to the NIT and defeated Michigan State in the first round before being eliminated by Minnesota. Price also served as coordinator of the Billy Tubbs Basketball Camp for Children during the summer of 1993.

A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Price was a basketball manager at Kansas for four years and served as head manager under coach Roy Williams as both a junior and senior. During his four seasons at Kansas, the Jayhawks advanced to the Final Four in 1988 and 1991 under coach Larry Brown and under Williams.

During his coaching stint at Oklahoma, Price served as a manager for the U.S. Olympic men?s basketball ?Dream Team? while the squad practiced in the United States during the summer of 1992.

Price, 32, received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Kansas in 1991. He resides in West Lafayette, Ind., and is married to the former Beth Schilling. The couple recently welcomed their first child, Katherine, born in May.
